Starla's Candle Making Best Picks

My pick of the best places on the web to go to for candle, crafts, instructions and some fine "mom and pop" wholesale shops. In no way do I receive any money for the links, nor am I advertising for others. It is strictly what I like.

If you want to "grungy" a candle, the first thing you have to do is make your base for the candle - please see our candle making instructions for making bases -. Next you have to make the grunge wax by melting paraffin based wax, then add your scent, give a good stir, place a paint brush in the wax, sit your pan on a tilt and wait.......and wait........and wait.......
The wax will start to cool and form a skim on top.
I like to hit it with a hand help mixer for about 30 seconds, then smash and smush the grungies back into the wax so they will form little nubbies.
Next you take your base candle and run it through the grungies. Sit the candle on a metal cookie sheet and there you have it. A very easy candle making project for the beginner.
Now if you want to be fancy you can do a lot of different decorating of grungy candles from this point on.
You can use a cookie cutter to cut out faces or designs in the candle while it is still warm.
You can change the look of the grungies by whipping the wax more, or scraping off some of the whipping's after you have applied it to the candle.
You can add cut outs made with real cookie cutters as long as you do it before the grungy outer coating of wax has cooled.
You just really have to use your imagination and you can come up with a beautiful candle of your own creation!
